To change your Groups privacy settings:

Two-step Verification

Two-step verification adds an extra layer of security to your WhatsApp account. When enabled you can set a 6 digit PIN. WhatsApp will ask you for this PIN when registering your number with WhatsApp on a new device.

To enable two-step verification:

  1. Open WhatsApp Settings
  2. Go to Account > Two-step verification > Enable
  3. Enter a six-digit PIN and confirm
  4. Provide an email address to help reset your PIN if you forget it

With two-step verification, only you can access your WhatsApp account even if someone knows your password.

End-to-end Encryption

WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption to secure messages, calls, photos, videos and voice messages. This means only you and the person you communicate with can read or listen to them.

End-to-end encryption helps prevent:

  • WhatsApp and third parties from accessing your conversations
  • Criminals from hacking your chats

WhatsApp encryption is on by default for all users. There is no setting to enable it.

Live Location Sharing

WhatsApp allows sharing your real-time location with your contacts. You control who to share with and for how long. There are three location sharing options:

  • 15 minutes – Share live location for 15 minutes
  • 1 hour – Share live location for 1 hour
  • 8 hours – Share live location for 8 hours

To share your live location in WhatsApp:

  1. Open the chat you want to share with
  2. Tap Attach > Location > Share Live Location
  3. Select the duration to share
  4. Tap Send

Location sharing expires automatically. You can stop sharing at any time. Only share live location with trusted contacts.

Block Contacts

You can block contacts in WhatsApp to prevent them from messaging you or seeing your profile info. To block a contact:

  1. Open the WhatsApp chat with the contact
  2. Tap More options > Block contact

You can also block unknown users who are not in your contacts list. Blocking is a good way to prevent unwanted messaging.
