Does WhatsApp show when you missed a call?

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps, used by over 2 billion people worldwide. It allows users to send messages, make voice and video calls, and share photos, documents, and more. One handy feature of WhatsApp is the ability to make voice calls through the app.

So what happens when you miss a WhatsApp call? Does the app notify the caller that you didn’t pick up? Let’s take a closer look at how missed calls work on WhatsApp.

Does WhatsApp notify you of missed calls?

Yes, WhatsApp has a missed call notification feature. If someone calls you on WhatsApp and you don’t answer, the app will let both you and the caller know that the call was missed.

On your end, if you miss a WhatsApp call, you’ll get a notification saying you have a missed voice call. This notification will show up in a few places:

  • As a banner notification at the top of your phone screen
  • In your list of WhatsApp notifications accessed by swiping down from the top of the screen
  • As a badge icon on the WhatsApp app icon showing the number of missed calls
  • Within the WhatsApp app in the Calls tab

Tapping on the missed call notification will open the WhatsApp app directly to the call log with details of the missed call. From there, you can instantly call the person back if you want.

Does the caller know if you missed their WhatsApp call?

Yes, the person who called you will also get notified if you miss their WhatsApp call. They will see a message saying the call was missed or not answered.

The caller’s app will display a notification indicating the recipient didn’t pick up. They will also see the missed call reflected in their own call log within WhatsApp.

So in summary, both the caller and recipient are informed when a WhatsApp call goes unanswered. This allows both parties to follow up if needed.

What other call info does WhatsApp display?

In addition to missed call notifications, WhatsApp provides plenty of other information about your call history and activity:

  • Full list of all incoming and outgoing calls
  • Call duration for completed calls
  • Timestamps for when calls occurred
  • Call log organized by date
  • Icons indicating whether calls were incoming, outgoing, or missed

You can access your full WhatsApp call log by opening the app and selecting the Calls tab. From here you can view details for recent and past calls, return missed calls, delete call logs, and more.

Can you disable WhatsApp missed call notifications?

If you don’t want to be notified about missed WhatsApp calls, you can disable the notifications.

On an Android device, follow these steps:

  1. Open WhatsApp and tap the three-dot menu icon
  2. Select Settings > Notifications
  3. Tap Missed voice calls
  4. Disable Show notifications

On an iPhone, go to Settings > Notifications > WhatsApp and turn off Missed Call Alerts.

By disabling missed call notifications, you won’t see any badges, banners, or pop-ups when you miss a WhatsApp call. However, all missed calls will still be logged in your Calls tab for reference.

Can you tell if someone read your WhatsApp missed call notification?

There is no way to tell if someone specifically read your WhatsApp missed call notification. However, you can see when recipients have read your WhatsApp messages.

In an individual or group chat, messages will show one checkmark when delivered, and two checkmarks when read. But this does not apply to missed call notifications – there is no built-in read receipt for these types of notifications.

The caller will only know that you missed their call from the notification they receive. Beyond that, there is no WhatsApp feature that shows if you opened or read their missed call alert.

Can you remove the missed call notification?

WhatsApp does not allow users to remove or delete missed call notifications from within the app. The notification will disappear on its own after you view it.

However, on Android, you can manually clear the notification by swiping it away in your notification tray. On an iPhone, you can swipe left on the notification and tap Clear to remove it.

To fully clear all missed call notifications and badges, you need to view your call history in WhatsApp. This resets the counter and removes the unread notification indicator.

Does WhatsApp have a call waiting feature?

WhatsApp does not have a call waiting feature currently. If you are on a WhatsApp call and another WhatsApp call comes in, you will not receive any notification of the new incoming call.

The only way you can tell if someone tried to call you while you were already on a call is by checking your call history later. You will see the attempted call logged as a missed call.

But unlike a traditional phone line, WhatsApp cannot handle call waiting or display multiple calls simultaneously. You can only have one active call in the app at a time.

Can you answer a WhatsApp call on multiple devices?

With WhatsApp’s multi-device functionality, you can access your WhatsApp account from up to 4 linked devices simultaneously. However, you can only take or make WhatsApp calls from one device at a time.

So if you miss a WhatsApp call on one device, answering from a different linked device is not possible currently. The call will simply show as missed on all your devices.

WhatsApp’s voice calling feature is limited to one active call per account. Having the app open on other devices does not enable call waiting or call transferring capabilities.

Can you block missed call notifications from certain contacts?

There is no direct way to block missed call notifications from specific contacts within WhatsApp. However, you have a couple options to prevent unwanted missed call alerts:

  • Block the contact – This will prevent them from being able to call or message you entirely
  • Mute notifications from the contact – You won’t get notifications for any calls or messages from muted contacts

You can also disable all WhatsApp notifications, which would eliminate any missed call notifications. But this applies to all contacts and groups uniformly.

Does WhatsApp offer voicemail features?

WhatsApp does not have integrated voicemail technology. If you miss a WhatsApp call, the caller cannot leave a voicemail message for you within the app.

However, if the caller really wants to leave a voice message, they have a couple options:

  • Record and send a voice message through WhatsApp chat
  • Leave a voicemail on your regular phone number’s system outside of WhatsApp

But there is no way to integrate voicemail functions directly with WhatsApp’s voice calling at this time. Missed calls simply show up as notifications in your call log.

Can you customize WhatsApp missed call notifications?

There is no setting in WhatsApp to customize the sound, vibration, or visual style of missed call notifications. They will appear according to your device’s global notification settings.

However, you can customize notifications for WhatsApp messages – including changing the notification sound, vibrate preferences, popup style, and more. But these settings do not carry over to missed WhatsApp calls.

Your only options for customizing WhatsApp missed call alerts are enabling/disabling them entirely, or controlling notifications at the device system level.

Conclusion

To recap, WhatsApp does notify both the caller and recipient when a call goes unanswered. Missed calls are reflected through on-screen notifications, call history logs, and badge icons.

While you can disable notifications for missed calls, the call details will still be visible in your WhatsApp call log. There is no way to tell if someone read your specific missed call notification.

Overall, WhatsApp’s missed call notifications provide a straightforward way to see and return calls you may have missed. With no integrated voicemail or call waiting features, the app simply logs the call for you to follow up on later.
